The Oans evolved on the planet Maltus, and were possibly the first intelligent lifeforms in the Universe.
History
At this time they were tall greyish blue humanoids with black hair. They became scientists and thinkers, experimenting on the worlds around them. One experiment led to the creation of a new species, the Psions. In a pivotal moment, billions of years ago, a Maltusian named Krona used time-bending technology to observe the beginning of the Universe. This experiment flooded the beginning of the Universe with entropy causing it "to be born old".
Feeling responsible for this, the Maltusians relocated to the planet Oa (at "the center of the Universe") and became the interstellar peacekeeping organization known as the Guardians of the Universe. Their goal was simple: combat evil and create an orderly universe. And they acted quickly on that goal. During this period they also changed to their current appearance.
Powers and Abilities
Powers
Oans possess vast knowledge and psionic powers which mirrors the abilities of their Green Lanterns' power rings, as well as energy manipulation, telepathy, telekinesis.
- Energy Manipulation: Ability to manipulate the emotional spectrum of energy that is willpower. They formerly called the power the "Glow". This power is naturally generated by them and is capable of all the feats of the Green Lantern power rings, which include:
- Energy Projection: The glow, similar to the rings, can be used to fire blasts of Oan energy or create weapons such as projectiles of them. The ring can project beams of force powered by the will of the user. The ring can be used to produce kryptonite and kryptonite radiation.[2][3][4][5][6]They can also destroy all extraterrestrial weapons and technology in the area.[7]
