Countdown Crossovers
From DC Database
|
Countdown is a DC weekly comic that serves as the "spine" of the DC Universe [1]. As such, there are numerous crossovers between this title and other DC titles. While Countdown is being published, most DC titles have a black box reading "Countdown" followed by the number of that week's Countdown issue. However, not all of these issues actually tie in with Countdown.
For a full list, see Countdown Crossovers.
These issues and story arcs tie in with the Countdown story line, some in significant ways, some only slightly.
- Action Comics 852, 853, and 854 chronicle Jimmy Olsen's ongoing struggle to understand his new powers as "Mr. Action." The title page of Action 852 states that "this issue takes place alongside Coundown #42!" Action 854 takes place immediately after Countdown 37.
- All Flash 1. Bart Allen's death is shown again in this issue.
- All New Atom 13, 14 and 15. Ryan Choi goes looking for Ray Palmer, but instead is found by Donna Troy, Jason Todd, and the Monitor of Earth 1. Issue 13 ends with specific directions to read Countdown 42 before reading All New Atom 14. In issue 14, Kyle Rayner arrives and Atom is suddenly yanked back to Ivy Town, leaving Kyle, Donna, and Jason to continue the search alone.
- Amazons Attack 1, 2, 3, 4, 6. and 6. The Attack of the Amazons is mentioned periodically in Countdown. These events also lead into Grace Choi's storyline in Outsiders: Five of a Kind - Wonder Woman and Grace 1, a Countdown tie-in issue (see below).
- Blue Beetle 16. This issue features Eclipso in her first attempt to find a pure soul to inhabit.
- Captain Carrot and the Final Ark 1 has the "Countdown Tie-In" logo on the cover, although how the goings-on of Earth-26 will affect the story line remains to be seen.
- Countdown Presents: The Search for Ray Palmer: Wildstorm 1 and Crime Society 1 follows Jason Todd, Donna Troy, Kyle Rayner, and Bob the Monitor through Earth-50 (the Wildstorm Universe) and Earth-3 (the Crime Society Universe) in their continued search.
- Countdown to Adventure 1 contains the origin of Forerunner as the backup feature. The second issue follows Forerunner and Monarch to Earth-10 where they meet Nazi counterparts of the JLA.
- Detective Comics 837, in which Bruce Wayne send P.I. Edward Nigma to Metropolis to investigate the Athenian Women's help shelter. Athena is revealed to be working with Desaad.
- Flash: The Fastest Man Alive 11, 12, and 13. The Rogues, who kill Bart Allen in issue 13, are featured in Countdown, especially Trickster and Pied Piper.
- Firestorm 35
- Justice League of America 8, Justice Society of America 5, Justice League of America 9, Justice Society of America 6, and Justice League of America 10 (The Lightning Saga). Karate Kid especially has been seen in Countdown, and remained in the 21st century at the end of the Lightning Saga.
- Outsiders: Five of a Kind - Thunder/Martian Manhunter 1. Thunder and Martian Manhunter meet Grayven, who is trying to stop whoever is killing the New Gods.
- Outsiders: Five of a Kind - Wonder Woman/Grace 1. Following the events of Amazons Attack, Grace Choi and Wonder Woman team up to stop a bomb left by the Bana. As of Countdown 33, it is not clear how this will tie in to Countdown.
- Supergirl 18. One of the monitors explains to Kara about the monitors' mission to eliminate anomalies from their respective universes.
- Supergirl 21-22. Supergirl encounters Karate Kid and Una. The encounter triggers memories for her of her time with the Legion of Super-Heroes, although she does not seem to understand why. Karate Kid reveals that he and Una are from a time before Supergirl was with the Legion of Super-Heroes.
- Superman 665 has "A Countdown Tie-In" on the cover, which features Jimmy Olson wearing a "Countdown" t-shirt. However, the events of Superman 665 take place during Jimmy Olson's childhood and therefore not during the time-frame of Countdown. Interestingly, the bar code box does not have the "Countdown" black box.
- Teen Titans 47. Former Titan Duella Dent was killed in Countdown 51 and the Titans attend her funeral.
As of the week of June 27, 2007, Diamond Comic Book Distributors began labeling DC titles that crossed over with Countdown with the abbreviation "CD". Shortly after that, issues that tie in to Countdown began to have the words "A Countdown Tie-in" on the cover.
