Creator fields not visible?

Hey Nate,

Not sure if this is a template glitch or if only certain pages are being affected, but on some pages such as this, the creator fields are no longer visible? Any ideas? Thanks much!

Oh... and I know that the creator fields won't be visible if the creator pages haven't been made yet, but for some reason, they're still not showing up on this particular page, even after I created pages for the two creators. Weird. --Brian Kurtz 12:09, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Disregard. I think it was just some weird glitch with that particular page. I refreshed the page, and that seems to have done the trick. Thanks anyway! --Brian Kurtz 13:50, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Facebook icon

Hey Peteparker, whenever you get a chance, can you take a gander at the DC Database:News Template? The Facebook icon isn't showing up correctly. Not sure why. I pretty much just swiped the whole thing from MDP. Here's the link to the icon. If you can do this, I will reward you with pictures of coffee and donuts (once I figure out how that gift thingamajig works). Thanks!
--Brian Kurtz 12:21, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Button Icons

Hey Peteparker, those button icons are awesome! Oh... I tweaked the DC Staff template slightly because it said "Marvel" in places where it should have read "DC". The button icon however still says Marvel though.

Also... if there's room on the edit page, can we also get a button icon somewhere for small script. I actually use that code quite a bit and it would really come in handy rather than typing out <small></small> all the time. Thanks a lot! --Brian Kurtz 21:43, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Nice. I don't know about the little Earth icon with my stupidly named "Roygbiv666/ Earth Template" thing though. I just made it because I was too lazy to copy/paste for new "Earth-Number" entries. Suggestions on name change/move? Oh yeah, I agree on the small script too.

On a bigger note - how do you create these buttons? --Roygbiv666 22:40, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Image 'Subject' Fields

I don't foresee a problem with this, unless there is some autocategorization based on the subject field that won't be valid afterwards because some pagenames haven't been set up for the "new" name (ex. if the current subject is "Dogman (Earth-D)", it autocategorizes it to "Category:Dogman (Earth-D)/Images", then you 'correct' it to "Bob Pup (Earth-D)" and there isn't a "Category:Bob Pup (Earth-D)"). Roygbiv666 12:43, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Pete - I started a page for bot discussions/suggestions/etc. here. I know we should probably use the Forums, but I rarely check them. Roygbiv666 12:05, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Image Tag

I made a little template to stick in Image Templates, called Template:FairJust. What do you think - does it make sense in terms of usage and that sort of thing? I used it in Image:Power Boy 001.jpg.

Roygbiv666 04:31, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

"Bad" titles?

Is there a way to delete these "Bad" titles? Specifically dcdatabase:Spoilers and marveldatabase:Plagiarism. This would be awesomely appreciated. Thanks! --Brian Kurtz 00:12, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Main Page design

Hey Nate,

Gotta say, I'm liking the new "Main Page" layout. Takes a second to get used to, but I think it looks pretty schweet! That being said, you think it might be a good idea to mebbe shift the Random Image section to the right? The only reason I say is because there's this looooooooong blank space beneath the News section. If not, certainly no biggie. Also, is there still a chance of doing away with that weird plagiarism link on the uncategorized pages page? That thing just annoys me like a cankor. Oh... I answered your other comments on my talk page. Thanks again. Cheers! --Brian Kurtz 16:03, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Template Help

Any idea why this isn't working properly? When it's inserted into a page, it should show up and categorize the page as part of the storyline. It looks like the template is set up correctly (see Template:MX for a similar idea), but when you insert it into the page, you just get a link to the template, not the nifty thing you should see.

Bot Problems

Hey, I noticed a couple of problems with the bot going around and fixing redirects on the individual pages. I think it's really cool, but... there are a bunch of special circumstances where it generates problems. For example, in issues of "Green Lantern: Evil's Might", an Elseworlds tale putting the Green Lanterns into 19th Century NYC ala Gangs of New York, I put down like "Kyle Rayner" under the appearing, but it actually slated "Kyle Rayner (New Earth)" as a cast member, and now we have it listed that Kyle Rayner died over a century before his own birth in conflict with Tammany Hall. And I put a link at the bottom to "Green Lantern: Evil's Might", which I plan on making into a storyline page, but it changed it to just linking back to the comic list where it's currently redirecting. It's a really cool program otherwise, but it... lacks a personal touch. Is there anyway we can improve this? If not, whatever whatever, it's not too much work to just go through and change where applicable.
This ties into that thing I was talking about earlier on the forums though. How do we list appearances of characters like these? I'm in favor of "Kyle Rayner (Alternate)" as a general page, with its own appearances category.

DC Database:Location Template

I think one of the updates to this template may have changed/eliminated one of the "DC type" fields - i.e. "Sector", which refers to which Green Lantern space sector a location is a part of. See New Earth for an example. It used to auto-categorize the entry as part of "Secto 2814".

Roygbiv666 01:29, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
You might want to have a look at New Earth or Earth-2 - they don't look formatted properly anymore.
Roygbiv666 14:01, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

Character Template

Does the template still have the "Theme" option, I don't see it on the template page. If it still exists, how do you create a theme?

Roygbiv666 13:01, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

The Shield

Check out DC Reacquires Archie Characters - it's like a backhanded way to acquire a "Captain America" character of their own. Thanks for all your help on the Templates and what not!

Roygbiv666 04:07, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

DC Database:Column Template

If you get a chance, could you take a look at this template. I was trying to modify the Comic Template into a Column Template (for like editorial columns), started eliminating code, and I think I dropped a bracket or a div or something.

Roygbiv666 13:12, 22 August 2008 (UTC)
Would you be able to change the Pubmonth/pubyear defaults? The column is actually dated with the publishing month (and week), it's not three months ahead like comics. I looked, but my head started hurting - thank God I'm good looking. Thanks.
Roygbiv666 01:25, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

Character Original Publisher

Do you think there's any value/need for adding a field to the Character Template to identify the original publisher? Like All-American for Wonder Woman, Alan Scott; Quality Comics for Uncle Sam; and MLJ for the Shield; and so on. Of course, it would then auto-categorize as "Category:Quality Comics Characters" and so on.

Roygbiv666 00:53, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
Not sure if you saw my response on my page. I think maybe DC has acquired about a dozen companies and a dozen characters each, so that's 144 characters. Is there a comparable situation on the Marvel side?
Roygbiv666 18:20, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

Welcome to Tranquility Vol 1 1

Hi. This is actually a trade paperback, not the first issue of the series...

Roygbiv666 03:09, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Character Template - Creator

Hey, any chance of getting the Character Template updated like the Marvel side to show the Creator of the character and have it autocategorize under "Category:So-and-so/Creator"?

Roygbiv666 18:17, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

Template:Roygbiv666 Concept

SOrry to keep bugging you, but ... I'm stoopid. I was trying to modify the "Item Template" into a "Concept Template" (for using to describe concepts and terms, like Pre-Crisis or Post-Crisis, etc.), but I think I dropped a div somewhere. Basically, it should look the same as the Item Template, but I just deleted a bunch of stuff in the middle. ideas? thx

Roygbiv666 21:09, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Quotes Hiccup

I don't know if this is solvable... and if not, whatever, there's always good old-fashioned copy pasting.
So, I was looking at the Quotes Category for one of my old favorites, The Vigilante. And remembering some old quotes I had entered, I was curious as to why they weren't there. There's this neat little speech I wrote into the synopsis section of Vigilante #1, that doesn't show up. I think, because it's a category, that if you have two or more quotes on the same page, it only puts the first one into the category. Just thought I'd alert you.

- Billy Arrowsmith (Talk), 09:18, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
Here's another one I thought I'd bring to your attention. Cassandra Cain (New Earth) has a quote from Robin and a quote from Batman on it. I was reading through Category:Bruce Wayne (New Earth)/Quotes, and I noticed that the Robin quote is actually being falsely attributed into there.

Character template

I've been trying to put together a version of the Character Template that lists all the available parameters and whether or not they're optional. My results can be seen at User:The Paradox/Character template. If you wouldn't mind taking a look at it and adding any that I've missed I would appreciate it. I've also started a discussion at DC Database talk:Character Template#New features that may eventually need the attention of an admin. The Paradox 20:21, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

Hey, no talkback template. Anyway, since I prefer to keep discussions centrally located, I've replied on my talk page. The Paradox 00:20, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

Reality v Universe

In the context of templates and categorization, what is the difference between Category:Realities and Category:Universes? They seem to be redundant, with all the Universe entries manually added, whereas the Realities are autocategorized ("autocat-ed") by the various Character, Location and Reality templates. Are there other conceptual or practical differences that I'm not seeing? If not, then perhaps they could/should be combined. The Paradox 18:47, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

(I've really got to get this template created...) The Paradox 20:17, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

DC Database:Reality Template

Excellent update![1] While you're at it, perhaps you can figure out/explain to me/correct the tendency for references to be listed in the Notes section. At this point, I'm having to hack in a {{reflist}} under Links. See the last couple of edits to Earth-13 for an example of the difference. Obviously, I think the references should appear at the end of the page, since a lot of the citations I'm adding are in the Trivia section. The Paradox 23:35, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

(and thanks for the talkback template as well)

DC Database:Team Template

When you get a chance, could you look at the Creators, First, Last and Links fields? They aren't behaving the way I expect them to. The Creators is showing only the first entry, First and Last aren't linking to the issue, and the Links are showing up twice. Take a look at Justice Experience to see what I mean. It's one of the protected templates, so it requires the hand of an admin. The Paradox 10:17, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

Show vs. Hide

It's really nifty that we have that Show/Hide option in like the minor character templates and the crossover templates, but is there anyway we can choose to have it show automatically instead of hide automatically? Because, like with the minor characters, it would be nice to see them immediately when you're on the page. It doesn't seem to always happen, but it auto-hides them a lot. And there are some situations with the crossover template, for example in Template:Bloodlines RR where I would rather have it immediately showing, because I inserted it in the crossover stub (Template:Bloodlines). It's fine if you can't get back to me for awhile though, you have a lot on your plate already, and you've been doing a lot of fantastic and important things lately.

Falsely Moved Pages

So, there's this guy who, with the best interests at heart I'm sure, keeps on moving character pages to new things of his own free will and not moving any of the subpages. So, we have disasters lying around like Category:Roy Harper (New Earth)/Appearances and Category:Roy Harper Jr. (New Earth)/Appearances. I know that your bots are smart enough to move all of these pages by themselves, but I was actually wondering if you wouldn't mind moving a couple of these pages back? For example, Roy Harper never goes by Junior, as he was abandoned on a Navajo reservation and his father has never showed up in comics. Would you mind moving Roy Harper Jr. (New Earth) back to Roy Harper (New Earth)? (the punctuation on that one is false anyway, so it needs to be moved regardless). And Goodness (New Earth) should be put back at Granny Goodness (New Earth) as it's her full name, not a title.

- Billy Arrowsmith (Talk), 20:06, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

New Earth cat listings

Any objection to my restoring the Defaultsort on this article?[2] It allows for New Earth to be listed first, under 'E', in the list of alternate Earths in categories instead of off by itself under 'N' (e.g. Category:Realities vs Category:Characters). The Paradox 23:23, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

Nope, sorry bout that, wasn't thinking. :)

Character Templates

Hey, thanks for fixing things up; you really earn the nickname "friendly neighbourhood admin." I think there's a minor typo, however, the Character Template; it looks like a colon is missing somewhere in the switching for the "AlienRace = " field. In the infobox, the Race is showing up as a redlink. (see Kal-El (New Earth) for example.) Thanks! The Paradox 02:45, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Wow, you've been busy today; I can't even track all the template updates you've made. I've been testing some of the Character ones on Alan Scott (New Earth) (he's good for that with his multiversal origins, one eye and dead first wife), and found a few formatting things that could be tweaked. Specifically, the Eye(s) and MaritalStatus2. I'm not sure if category redirects work like article ones do; if they in fact forward entries, then redirecting Cat:One Eyes to Cat:One Eye might be a quick and simple fix.
Next, I delve into the Reality Template!! The Paradox 19:36, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
No problem. I've been slacking off on the DC side of things, so I'm trying to make up for it. You guys deserve just as much customization and usefullness out of the templates as Marvel gets. :)
I tried to explain how the new stuff works on the character template talk page, but testing like you were is probably the best way to learn it. check out the changes I made to Alan to see how I incorporated that information. I think he could be autocategorized under 'One Eye' if 'one eye' was in his unusual features section too. (I know left eye is in there, but not the specific phrase 'one eye', which I believe is the keyword).
I'm probably too far ahead on this side now, and need to get Marvel up to speed on these things. Though we don't often have the same quirkyness as you guys over there, since I haven't seen a character with two Universe origins yet. :)
Hope those changes work out better for ya.
Nathan (Peteparker) (Earth-1218) (talkcontribsemail) 19:56, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
It's even worse than that. If I'm interpreting things correctly, we have three versions of Alan Scott (and most other E-Two characters); the Pre-COIE version that existed on E-Two, the New Earth version that incorporates much of the E-Two history, and the new Earth-2 one that is a direct continuation of the Pre-COIE Earth-Two version. How does one write up a history text for that? Oy. The Paradox 20:28, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
It's a lot of work, that's for sure. The real question is which version of each of those pretty much the same characters were in any specific comic? Who was in the first appearance?
If it were me, I'd separate them into three character pages, and refer to the other two on each. Whoever is the main character, probably the New Earth one, would have the full history, and I'd just make the other two minor characters, referring back to the New Earth History for theirs, up until the histories changed. Kinda like: "Alan of Earth-Two had much the same history as Alan of New Earth, up until ______, which is completely different because _______."
But I don't know if you guys give every character their own character page. That's how its pretty much always done on Marvel, which is why we have 10,000 characters. I'm sure DC would topple that easily if every little character got their own page, considering DC has about 20 years of lead on Marvel anyway. :)
Nathan (Peteparker) (Earth-1218) (talkcontribsemail) 20:34, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
It's really difficult for me to think of Earth-Two characters as Minor given they were the originals and have over 45 years of publishing history before COIE. I've got some idea of how to handle it, but as you say it's a lot of work and I'm pretty much putting off for the moment while I deal with the minor realities and their populations. Vertigo and licensed properties are great for that. The Paradox 20:43, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
PS - Rather than listing each and every Vertigo reality as a Hypertime Reality, I'm thinking about just placing Category:Vertigo into Category:Realities and Category:Hypertime Realities. That's one of the reasons why there's suddenly a lot of subcats in Category:Vertigo, so it can double as storylines and reality cats. The Paradox 20:49, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

Movie -> Film

Um, is everything being switched over to Film? 'Cause Movie seems to be used pretty consistently here, mixing the two will be confusing and there's a lot of articles and categories that this will impact. The Paradox 14:55, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

Alternate Company Pages

Do we really have to actually delete those? Not all of the pages were finished, but they did have a purpose. Although in most scenarios people looking for information about other comics companies should be looking at the other Databases, I made those pages so that we could have a direct reference for whenever those companies interacted with DC. For example, the Dark Horse Comics page contained a list of all crossovers between Dark Horse and DC. Could we get those put back?

Era Changing Bot

Just a heads up, you should probably finetune that one. I caught it changing the Captain Comet page to say that he appeared shortly before the "Silver-Age Characters" instead of "Silver Age", which is in his notes and not the categories.

- Billy Arrowsmith (Talk), 23:54, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Teen Titans

Awhile back I made a disambiguation page for them, just so I would have an easier reference when looking for that shoddy TV show or for the comic lists. And you moved the main page over to Teen Titans (New Earth), but... now they're missing a gallery and any appearances. Could you just catch those things back up?

Image upload page

Do you have the ability to customize the image upload page? I'm wondering about getting some more connection between the Image Template and the upload page interface; some additional drop down boxes, a fill in the blank field or two, that sort of thing. The Paradox 01:13, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

There are limited modifications that can be done, like changing the text above the input box, or which options you can put into the dropdown box. From what I've seen, there's nothing else that can be done to the page at the moment. I think the rest of the page is hardcoded into the software. I poked around a bit, and that's the extent of the changes I could find. :)

Continents v Countries

You do realize that continents are not countries, right? There is no nation known as Europe, or South America or Asia, so those really shouldn't be in Category:Characters by Nationality. Unless you plan on creating a Category:Characters by Continent, I'm not sure I see the point. The Paradox 07:45, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Category:Images/Comics

You might want to take a stroll through that category. The problem is, a lot of the categories are named using defunct naming conventions, so they won't actually show up on the pages. I would take care of it myself, but it seems like a lot of things have to be moved/deleted, and that's an administrator task.

- Billy Arrowsmith (Talk), 16:21, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
I was hoping to avoid the big questions about images and categories for awhile, but since it's been raised...
Can somebody explain to me the relationship between Category: Comic Images by Volume, Category:Images/Titles, Template:Volume Images and Template:Title Images, just to start? I'd like to have Vol #/Images and /Covers categories auto-cat into the Volume category. I'm continually frustrated that there's no connection between the categories containing the comics and the ones containing the images. The Paradox 23:00, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Bot-created categories

Hi! Would you mind keeping your bot from creating sub-categories for characters, quotes and DC Staff? It's really not discriminating enough to determine when the source page needs to be changed, and once a category is created it's far too likely to get lost in the confusing maze that is the Subpage Zone.

Recent examples include Category:Tellus (Pre-Zero Hour)/Appearances and Category:Kid Psycho (Pre-Zero Hour)/Appearances (not their true names); Category:Black Pirate (Jon Valor)/Appearances, Category:Wendy (Hitman)/Appearances, Category:Pyscho-Pirate (James Highwater)/Appearances, Category:Scavenger (Peter Mortimer)/Appearances and Category:Rosie (Vertigo)/Appearances (bad naming conventions); Category:Timothy Ravenind (New Earth)/Appearances, Category:Matthew Rider (New Earth)/Appearances (misspelling of names); Category:Captain Atom (Earth-4)/Appearances, Category:Doctor Sivana (Earth-S)/Appearances (not their full names); Category:Costumed guest at Wallace West (New Earth)/Quotes (really, really bad quotes page name); Category:Allison Mack/Creator (she's an actress, not DC staff) and Category:Dillon Connolly/Creator (16 year old fan boy). Thanks! The Paradox 21:56, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

Seven Soldiers of Victory Vol 2

I screwed up. I made a second page for this, where Seven Soldiers of Victory Vol 1 was made specifically for the trade paperbacks. DC Database:Organization Template

Could we get this bad boy updated to the same standards as DC Database:Team Template? That would be nice, it gets used surprisingly often, but I feel like it sort of hasn't come up much lately.

- Billy Arrowsmith (Talk), 21:29, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
I updated the first and last stuff, but I'm not 100% sure what else you'd like to see there. Got a list of things it's missing?
Speaking of the Team Template, there's something not-right with the Links and References section. Examples of the problem can be found at Inferior Five (duplication of text) and S.H.A.D.E. (random extra leading space creating a <pre>-type box).
Fixed this, but I'm pretty sure it was in the Organization template instead of the team one. Anyhow, now it's not in either.
Speaking of Links and References, can autodisplay options be grafted onto the Minor Character template? With the advent of the 52verse, references for the character inspirations/source material is a good thing. See Superman (Earth-31) for an example of it's necessity. Thanks! The Paradox 22:45, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
The references should be autoincluded now.
And all is right once again. :)

Template help

Hi Nate. Could you help me with some templates? I've been trying to put something together that would enable a collapsible list of characters for comic issue pages that contain a ridiculously long list of characters. See Infinite Crisis Vol 1 6 for a good example of characters-gone-wild. Unfortunately, I can't get it to display correctly within the comic template. The template boots everything down to the lower half of the page.

Any help you can provide would be awesome. There's certainly no rush on this, so please don't think of this as a priority matter. Here's the templates that I cobbled together...

THANKS! --Brian Kurtz 15:42, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

Bloodlines

I barely understand wikia coding, but tables are completely foreign to me. I sort of copy-pasted another table from another page on this site, and just filled in the information differently, but I assume I did something wrong because it doesn't show up on the page. And then I hid my failure. Anyway, can you help me figure out the table in the notes section on the Bloodlines page that's in the code, but not showing up on the page?

Umm, yeah. I started using the {{FeaturedCharacters| code in a bunch of comics (Crisis on Infinite Earths and Infinite Crisis), but something's not right. Is it just that there are some entries with plain text and no *?

Duplicate Templates?

Would you mind confirming my research? I think I've found a few templates that are intended to do the same thing, but with differing results. Said research can be found at User:The Paradox#Duplicate Templates?. (That entire section is still being compiled, but feel free to look it over.) If the results are confirmed, the use of a bot may be needed to integrate the categories. Personally I prefer the use of "issue" and "volume," but that can be discussed. The Paradox 08:22, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

Oh, and do you know what DPL means? The Paradox 08:28, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
Luckily, it's very easy to combine two templates and have both names still function. I'd feel bad for doing it, but for Issue, Title and Universe Images templates, we should just redirect them to their appropriate counterparts. That way, all the categorization will automatically change when the cache resets, and we won't have to change the text on all those pages. Basically, if you put in {{Issue Images}} or {{Comic Images}}, they'd both put the Comic Images stuff on the page, and categorize in Category:Comic Images by Issue. I'd do it right away, but I hate to remove other people's work just because I like mine better.  :)
tnav and thumbnav basically do the same things, but thumbnav is for situations where the Universe or Reality is not in the character's title, and needs to be specified. So it's justified that they both exist, at least for now.
DPL, or Dynamic Page Listing, is an external list making function that Wikia really doesn't like. Basically, using DPL to create a page uses 3-5 times more server resources than creating it by hand, and on pages with lots of views, it really slows the whole page down for everyone. And any slowness caused by this wiki affects not only this wiki by itself, but also any other wikis or wiki parts which use the same host server. So the use of it is highly discouraged by Wikia in general.
That being said, DPL has some very useful features that produce very desirable effects for us. The {{Quotes}} template is a good example. It uses dpl to go through all the pages listed in the quotes category and pull out the quote listed on that page, putting it into the right format. Being able to 'suck up' part of a template that is used on a page is immensely useful for us in many different ways. Pulling the year and month out is how we automatically show that stuff in the First and Last Issue parts of many templates. It is also very useful for finding specific groups of pages to work on. Check out my sandbox, for example. There, I've used DPL to create a list of characters who need their pages templated. (Which is a fun little project I'm working on). There is more information about dpl on it's main page, and wikia's dpl page.

Thanks for the reply. BTW, when I don't respond immediately it usually means I'm pondering the implications of the reply. As in this case.
I think the entire Issue v. Comic, Title v. Volume naming convention needs to be worked out (if it hasn't already), as well as the destination category name. Unless you can point me to a previously existing discussion, I'm going to start one on the Naming Conventions talk page. (Personally I prefer Issue and Volume, as they are more precisely descriptive; I'll explain why in the discussion.)
Is there a reason why {{Tnav}} couldn't or shouldn't be expanded to include the coding for a manually specified Reality designation? (Or, conversely, include a link to the images category in {{Thumbnav}}?) I can't think of a circumstance where we wouldn't want a link to the images category, so it seems silly for there to be a template that doesn't have it, but you may know of a reason.
Finally, would you mind if I copied portions of your talk page archives to relevant Template talk pages as "Closed Discussions"? I'm interested in seeing the discussion history of template evolution attached to those templates, and a lot of it happens here since you are the friendly neighborhood admin for template coding. Page Moves

Hey, would you mind taking a quick stroll through Category:Move for me? I know your bot can move pages a lot easier than manually going through all of the appearances sections. Specifically, Damian Wayne (New Earth), René Jacques Brande (Pre-Zero Hour), Neh-Buh-Loh (New Earth), O.M.A.C. (Omni-Mind and Community) and Bob the Monitor (New Earth). The problem with our {{Move}} template is, it actually specifically instructs that the pages not be moved. I don't know why.

- Billy Arrowsmith (Talk), 18:52, 21 October 2008 (UTC)
Nathan, if you're willing to unprotect the move templates and the To Be Moved category page for a few days, I've been wanting to update them in exactly the manner you mention on Billy's page and throw some better documentation onto them. The Paradox 04:54, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
You got it, Paradox. Have at it. :) If you have any trouble, don't hesitate to ask.

Character Stubs

I understand why you're converting all of the character stubs to minor character templates, but would you mind not doing that anymore? The problem is, it isn't actually adding any information to the page, but it is removing the thing telling us that a page needs more information. Eventually, using the To-Do list on the main page which I'm going through right now, we will get to these articles, but in the meantime it's helpful to separate the articles with no information from the articles that just need history filled in. Also, by our own failings, we have a lot of pages with no information for characters that would be considered major. And it sort of gets confusing for newbies filling things in when they show up on a character page and want to add content but find themselves very restricted. Sorry, normally this would be a really good idea, and other people might disagree with me, it's just weird for me because I spend a lot of time on the To-Do list.

- Billy Arrowsmith (Talk), 15:22, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
That sounds excellent. You're a very pleasant person to work with, Nathan. I think I'm going to start going through What Links Here for the Character Stub instead of the Article Request category. I would be totally supportive of adding more information needed categories to the character template. I just want to avoid until then needlessly taking things off of our checklist. The qualifications for this sort of thing sound perfect for deliberation on the forums. Until then, I'll keep busy working on this problem from my end. Thanks.

Template:Test

Any chance I can convince you to show me where I missed it, as discussed on my talk page? The Paradox 18:03, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

Auto-appearances

What's the limit on how many appearances a comic will automatically categorize? I noticed a problem with Final Crisis: Legion of 3 Worlds #2, which has an amount of frustrating cameos bordering on the obscene, where it stops listing the character appearances about halfway through. I know there was some problems awhile back with how many Cast fields could be filled in in the COIE issues.

Bot questions

  1. Would it be possible to set your Bot to tag those articles listed at User:The Paradox/For Any Admin that don't already have {{Template Required}}?
  2. Can it be set to remove the text "Synopsis not yet written" from the Synopsis FIELDs of comics articles, if that is the only text in that FIELD? It's preventing those articles from being autocategorized into Category:Articles in need of summaries.
  3. You've expressed some desire for the Move catgory & articles to be better streamlined and automated. I'm wondering if creating a separate template specifically for the bot to look for would be the route to go, so there's no confusion about what's ready and what's still being discussed. It would seem to be a simple matter to have a {{MoveBot}} tag that replaces {{Move}} once a decision is reached, and for the Bot to only look for that tag. That way you could just launch the Bot once a week or so without having to double check articles. The Template itself could be a simple cut and paste of the regular Move template, since it's only purpose is to alert the Bot. And on that note, Ripley Hunter (New Earth) and Anti-Monitor (New Earth) are ready to be moved. :D
The Paradox 21:16, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

Also, Matthew Ryder (New Earth). Sorry, that one's just been bugging me for awhile, and creating doubt in a whole number of my projects, including both Zero Hour and especially Armageddon 2001.

- Billy Arrowsmith (Talk), 21:39, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
And Balloon Buster (sorry, I was looking at Move discussions, not the category itself). The Paradox 22:03, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

Couple of other move requests while you're at it. Matthew Ryder (New Earth) to Matthew Ryder (Armageddon 2001), Central City, Missouri to Central City, and could you clean up the Outsiders (New Earth) surrounding pages? That's a big team page, and it was moved, but its sub-pages weren't... including every single appearance. Actually, it would also be perfectly acceptable probably to just move it back where it was, as there's only one team that uses the name anyway. And that way not only would it make that page more accessible, but it would be less of a hassle to autocat appearances because they wouldn't need to be piped, and minor alternate universe problems wouldn't come up either. I'm asking this here though because it's been like that for awhile, and no matter what we decide on that page, there are probably appearances currently listed for both Outsiders and Outsiders (New Earth), as it gets confusing.

More bot work

I've just confirmed that every article ready to moved has the tag at the top of the page and all the ones not ready don't. Also, were you still going to have the bot tag the articles at User:The Paradox/For Any Admin with {{Template Required}} ? The Paradox 04:00, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

Cool, the Bot is going right now. What if the pages on your page have a template? The first one does. Should it skip those?
Nathan (Peteparker) (Earth-1218) (talkcontribsemail) 04:08, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
I'm sorry, yes. I should specified "those that don't already have the {{Template Required}} template." :D The Paradox 04:14, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
Whew. That should keep us busy for a while. Thanks. The Paradox 05:48, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
