A stub is a tool that holds the place of an article under construction. The name is often the only thing known about the subject. A stub shows the reader that the topic exists, but is not yet ready for reference. If the reader is so inclined, they can create/edit the article themselves.

Usage: Simply add the stub name inside 2 curly braces at the appropriate place within the article.
The formatted stub will appear automatically. e.g. {{Character Stub}}


The following is a list of stubs for easy reference:

Page Stubs

  • Standard Stub - A generic article stub. Typically used for pages of currently unknown classification.
  • Character Stub - A stub that holds the place for a character. Homo Sapiens, Homo Superiors, Extraterrestrials, and artificial intelligents fall in this category.
  • Item Stub - Items can be anything from a 9mm pistol to the Eye of Agamotto. Anything of import that one may want to note for reference.
  • Location Stub - Any place that currently exists or has previously existed in the DC multiverse.
  • Miscellaneous Stub - Varies slightly from the Standard Stub, in that, the article is known not to fall under another category.
  • Organization Stub - Organizations are groups of people, human or otherwise, that can be distinguished from teams in that Organizations are generally larger and have a more distinguished heirachical structure.
  • Race Stub - A placeholder stub for 'extraterrestrial races'. NB: This in not for use in distinguishing races of terrestrial descent.
  • Reality Stub - Any reality that in some minor way differs from the classically recognized 'Earth 1'.
  • Team Stub - Teams are smaller than organizations and generally have only one leader, although this is not always the case.
  • Vehicle Stub - A mode of transport for any characters mentioned in the database, whether the vehicle is unique or commonly encountered such as a sedan.
  • Glossary Stub - A glossary entry is a brief description of a term frequently used in the DC Universe. A glossary entry may be upgraded to become a full article, if so warranted.
  • User Stub - A place-holder for the personal page of a DCDP user. Often added to the user's page by an administrator shortly after joining.
  • Comic Stub - Specific details about important comic issues are often a valueable tool. This may include first or final apperances.
  • Event Stub - Similar to a comic entry, the event entry is different in that it is more than one issue in length. An example is the Infinity Crisis, which numbers more dozens of issues in length.

More Stubs

  • First - Delineates the first appearance of a character.
  • Final - Delineates the final appearance of a character.
  • 1st/Last - Indicates a character, location or item that has only made a single appearance.
  • Cameo - Indicates that a character, location or item only makes a cameo appearance.
  • Behind the Scenes - Indicates if a character is present, but functioning behind the scenes in a particular comic book.
  • Flashback - Indicates if a character, location or item appears only in a flashback sequence.
  • Update - This template should be placed on pages that require updated information as it becomes available to the public. Traditionally, this should only be used when articles are lacking information regarding major events, storylines, crossovers, etc.
  • Disambig Stub - (Disambiguation Stub) Use this stub to create a header for article clarification pages.
  • Distinguish Stub - Use this stub at the top of a page that can be found on a disambiguation page.
Usage: {{Distinguish|Name_Of_Disambiguation_Page_Here}}, and {{Distinguish2|Name_Of_Disambiguation_Page_Here|Name_Of_Another_Disambiguation_Page}}, etc.
  • Citation stub - This template should be placed within the body text of an article in the event that the additional source information is required.
  • Nav - A preformatted table showing a link to the 'previous page', title of current page and a link to the 'next page'.
  • Appearances - A uniform header to place at the top of all Appearances sub-pages.
  • Controversial - Add this stub to the top of a page that is questionably valid or if the page does not seem to contain any relevant content to the project. It also categorizes the page for priority copy editing.
  • Merge From Stub - Adding this stub to the top of an article that will receive a merge will indicate to readers that the other article still needs to be brought over.

  • Merge To Stub - Adding this stub to the top of an article that will be merged into another article will indicate to readers that more information may be contained on the other article.
Usage: {{Merge From|Destination Article Name}}
  • Comic List - A header added to comic list pages for categorization purposes.
  • Quotes - A header added to quotation pages that will categorize and introduce the page. Not to be confused with the quote stub. (see directly below)
  • Quote - Please do not confuse with the above stub. The quote stub formats a quotation in an aesthetically pleasing manner.

  • Conversation - This stub is used like the above quote stub, but is used when there is a back-and-forth dialogue between 2 or more characters. Add the number of lines as a variable to the end of the stub name.
Usage: If the conversation has three lines, for example use {{Conversation3|[[First Character]]|Quote1|[[Second Character]]|Quote2|[[First Character]]|Quote3}}
  • Spoiler - Insert this stub directly above information in an article which may not yet be common knowledge, particularly if such advanced knowledge could ruin an upcoming plot.
  • Character Image - Adding this stub to the description of image scans of characters will categorize the image for easier future reference.
  • Cover Art Image - Adding this stub to the description of image scans of comic covers will categorize the image for easier future reference.
  • Fan Art Image - Adding this stub to the description of image scans of fan-art will categorize the image for easier future reference.
  • Plagiarism Stub - This stub is to be placed on top of a page that contains possibly plagiarized works. This stub advises the reader of the situation, provides a link to our policy forbidding plagiarism and categorizes the page for priority copy editing.
  • Hotlink Warning Stub - This stub is placed on a user's talk page to advise them we much prefer they upload the image to our database directly, rather than hotlinking to another host site.
  • Temporarily Protected Stub - This stub is to be placed on top of a page that has been protected because of vandalism or a large amount of inbound traffic. This stub advises the reader of the situation, which should be removed when the situation changes. It also places the page into the Temporarily Protected category.
  • Unsigned Stub - This stub is used to show who wrote an unsigned comment. To clarify a conversation, if someone hasn't signed their comment, add this tag to the end of their statement, placing their user name after the pipe.
